Arrowhead. - The gradual opening in the saddle for total support and relief in the perineal area. "C.F.R.P.". - Carbon fiber reinforced shell. Variable carbon percentages based on the needs and performance of the saddle. The mix of materials allows the shell to keep its shape over time yet is very strong, flexible and light weight. "EVA" padding: San Marco padding is the perfect combination of lightness and comfort. Comfort is improved thanks to the differentiated thicknesses, making the saddle more ergonomic in the "Crucial" places but without pointlessly adding weight. "Microfeel" cover - Breathable and hard wearing synthetic cover that is 5% lighter and 35% less deformable from standard covers. Rails: "Carbon Waist" - Multilayer carbon rail with internal stregthening waist in aluminum. Makes the rails extremely strong yet light.

I have no idea what the above reviewer is thinking... Other than they obviously dont know enough to be reviewing this product. There is a huge difference between a lite saddle and a heavy one if you are the type of rider that can tell this sort of difference, which the other reviewer shows that clearly he is not.I agree that if a saddle is comfortable for you then it is good and I wont presume to think that this particular saddle will be good for you. I know that it is good for me because I can sit on it for more than 5 hours at a stretch, 6 days a week. Its remarkably difficult to find a saddle at any weight and any price that can stand up to the 5 hour test! Is this saddle for you? I have no idea. But dont worry about its longevity or its heft. I suggest you try the inexpensive version (can be had for around $50-150 depending on exact model) and it that one works and you are a competitive cyclist then think about getting this lite weight version. I love this saddle.I'm a big guy at 220lbs and a recreational cyclist, and so was a tad hesitant about this minimalist uber lightweight racing saddle - but I love the look and want my cycle to be as light as reasonably possible. The padding is quite thin, but the shell is quite flexible and allows for a perfect fit as its contour conforms to you. This is much better than having a saddle with gobs of padding/gel to compensate for the wrong shell contour for your anatomy. However, tilt angle adjustment is absolutely critical w/ this saddle. When I first installed it, I thought it was "level", and hopped on it and proceeded to coast around my living room. The thing was downright painful. I adjusted it nose-down just a tad, and it was instantly transformed from painful to delightful. Did a couple of 2 hr rides w/ it on my MTB and my seat/tail never even crossed my mind - nor did it later. Very comfortable. Very light. Very nicely finished. Beautiful form... Performance makes a great saddle for $40 Pro SLX at 209 gms, if you really need/want to have light weight. I doubt whether the Aspide Carbon FX will hold up to many rides, but that's not the real issue here. Consider this: There are about 454 gms per pound. The difference between a 225gm saddle and a 110gm saddle is about 1/4 pound. You'd sweat that much off in the first few miles, or you could eat a little less the night before and you'd have the difference right there.I've ridden expensive light saddles and cheap heavy ones. They're all hard on the rear until you've ridden a bunch--and then they're still hard on the butt and other sensitive areas. The only good seat is on a recumbent. Maybe I'll get one of those soon, and give my neck a rest, too. The only reason to buy a seat like this one is if you have the psychological need--and a wallet too fat. Buy a slightly heavier saddle and give the rest to charity. You'll feel better, even if your butt won't care. |
