A bit of background: I'm over 60 and have been riding a tandem bicycle for over 15 years (tandemists tend to sit more than single riders). I also have a large prostate and high PSA numbers and have been lookng for a saddle that will not put any pressure on the prostate area. The SMP series seemed to fill the bill. It took a while to find the correct model based on my sit-bones (124 mm apart) but all the recommendations pointed to the "Pro."Mounting wasn't difficult and I did make sure to measure all the distances to assure that the positioning was correct. I also used a spirit level to make sure that the saddle was level. After the second ride, and a conversation with the support from the Selle USA distributor, I learned that I needed to move the saddle forward about 5mm for a better fit. Upon sitting on the saddle I could tell it was firm with some, but not much padding -- fortunatley I prefer saddles without any padding and like all minimally padded... I'm 66 years old and have a Scott CR1 Team that I ride 4-6 days a week, generally for at least an hour and often 1-1/2 to 2 hours. I tried several saddles because none of them were comfortable for more than 20-30 minutes, even though I shift my position quite often. After reading some reviews of the SMP Stryke saddles, I found one to demo in 2009. I rode it hard for several days straight while training for the annual Seattle to Portland ride. After 4 days I was sold and bought one. I got this saddle after having tried three or four others, including a Fizik, a Selle Italia, and the Specialized that came with my bike. I'm 48 years old and haven't been on a road bike for about 10 years. With the other saddles I was having lots of numbness in places I really do not like to be numb, and was having lots of pain in my tailbone. This saddle has fixed all the problems, and only took a few rides to get used to. Just rode a century with it and was actually able to sit down the next day! |
