I have been riding over 30 years without any issues with regards to saddle numbness. However, beginning last year, I began to develop numbness in my groin, (this was disturbing) as well as in my feet when riding longer than 50 miles or three hours. After I did a little research, it seemed like this was a common problem for a lot of folks, especially cops that patrol on bikes. I blame my problems on getting old and fat, as well as enjoying my bike and riding somewhere between 100-150 miles a week. After some shopping, I decided on the Sella SMP Hybrid, as it was designed for mountain biking and for "large" men (I'm only 5-10 and 190 pounds). I was afraid that this saddle was going to take a long time to set up correctly as well as to get use to the new feel, but it was actually easy. This version is similar to the SMP Lite 209. It is about 10 grams heavier and $100 cheaper than the Lite 209. It provides a great way for skeptical road bike enthusiast to test the SMP saddle concept without breaking the bank account.I have owned this saddle for 6 months now and find it the most comfortable saddle I have owned. I am a male "sportif" or "endurance" style rider and my bike has drop handle bars that are set in a moderate non-competitive riding position. I ride about 100 miles a week with an occasional long ride (40-100 miles) in the spring and summer. The saddle is still fairly new and its appearance is still unblemished. Previous saddles included a Brooks Professional (1976 model) and two Selle Italia Prolinks. This saddle provided instantaneous relief from past numbness issues.
