The Selle SMP Strike TRK Man saddle is designed from extensive studies conducted which analyzed the different positions assumed by a cyclist in the various phases of a ride and the constant interaction between the body and the saddle. Based on these findings, Selle SMP designed the STRIKE saddle which prevents the cyclist's sensitive areas from getting squashed and increases the blood flow to the leg muscles. Selle SMP makes the saddle in Italy. The central channel of the saddle varies in width to contour the body and allow continuous circulation of blood flow. The front section of the saddle with its beak-shaped design offers excellent support when pedaling hard and prevents your sensitive area from getting squashed in the process. The design of the outer mid-section is shaped to follow your thigh muscles to maximize blood circulation and pedaling power. The overall weight of the rider is distributed throughout the saddle to offer comfort without sacrificing performance. Unless you purchase a comfort bike, most stock bicycle saddles tend to have a maximum width of roughly 14 to 15 centimeters. This width is chosen because it accommodates a wide range of riders and thus, is almost a universal fit - although not necessarily a great one. However, if the width of your sitting bones falls outside of the norm, a standard saddle will likely cause you quite a bit of discomfort.For me, riding was often accompanied by a sore butt and numbness in other areas - neither made riding a bike particularly fun. Thus, I decided to spent a bit of time researching the various saddle designs and finally settled on the SMP TRK. Generally speaking, I think I would have liked to prefer test-riding the saddle, but none of my LBS had this saddle available. Thus, I simply took a chance by purchasing it sight unseen, if you will. I have a Stratos (SMP racing saddle) on my Kestrel road bike. I've put about 2000 miles on it this year alone. The next nearest saddle for road riding that works for me in the Fizik Axiom (of which there are quite a few models).I commute about 20 miles to work about twice a week. I has an Arione on my commuter bike which is a Specialized Roubaix comp frame from about 2005 with flat bars. With a back pack on the Arione was starting to get uncomfortable. I bought the TRK to cushion my ride a bit more. I'll never go back. Be forewarned, this saddle has a lot of cush, a lot of spring to it and weighs a lot compared to SMP's road saddles. Old seat was giving me a pain in the a** and I was covering about 60km (37miles) as weekend cyclist. My mountain bike guy suggested a Fizik seat but they look quite hard in real life (apparently they give you better support etc). So I selected this as I'm 6'1 and 230 pounds and need a wider seat for the wide load and it looks pretty cool. I went for a ride on the weekend and boy did it make such a huge difference, and it probably hasn't even broken in. I'd recommend this seat for anyone who wants a more cushy ride and you do a lot of road miles because your a** is worth it. |
