I was tipped off to these saddles by Kurt Rosenquist of Fit Works Cycling Support (http://www.fitworkscycling.com). The designer, Tom Milton (http://www.mcmwin.com/), is an ultracyclist who has put a lot of thought into improving bicycle saddle comfort. I started cycling over 5 years ago when my running ability had seriously declined (Trail and ultra running.). I've tried a variety of saddles, all uncomfortable to varying degrees. I got my first Selle An-Atomica the day before I took our bikes to Death Valley for the Fall Death Valley Century. After one 8 mile test ride before I left, I rode 108 miles at DV with a few stops to tweak the adjustments. I was the least uncomfortable I've ever been on a long bike ride. The next day I was amazed to have no saddle soreness whatsoever, since I'm usually a bit tender for a couple days after a long ride that I didn't train up for.The design is essentially a couple of layers of laminated industrial strength leather stretched... I have spent many months looking for a bike saddle for my LeMond Buenos Aires road bike. I recently had increased my riding time. This combined with having absolutely no "natural" padding of my own caused the onset of significant problems with piriformis muscle and sciatic nerve pain to the point where it was bordering on chronicity. I tried numerous moderately priced saddles without success. Out of desperation, I decided to splurge (at least for me it was a splurge) and pop for the Selle An-Atomica Titanico. The difference was immediate. Upon returning from a four - hour ride it was clear I had none of the persistent symptoms that were a major "pain-in-the-butt" in the past. I am satisfied beyond my expectations and highly recommend this saddle as a serious consideration. Spend the extra money. It may be the last you buy, at least for a long time. This one is tough to beat! |
