I've tried just about every women's so-called "performance" saddle, including the Specialized Ruby (~$150) and the Terry Butterfly Carbon (~$170), and neither compare to the Selle Italia. Best combination of fit and comfort. Pure comfort. Not too cushy, not too stiff, not too wide - just right. I've done several long rides on it and never even noticed the seat. I had a gel seat before this one, which was nice but after really long rides, I always had pain in the front of my groin from the pressure of the seat. This was not relieved by adjusting the seat angle or height and only got worse as the gel began to harden and get brittle. so it was time for a new seat. I settled on this one about 6 months ago and I have to say I have been extremely pleased. The front pressure issue has been completely resolved. Racing and shorter rides are a breeze.The seat doesn't absorb a lot of water (triathlons) so doesn't get soggy and also not slippery like some plastic coated seats. The slight flexibility allows the seat to move with you, but stay firm enough for racing. Not the best seat for long slow rides or multi-day long rides as the seat is relatively hard. I used this seat on a 7 day 560 mile bike ride. the pressure is solely on my sit bones which is much preferable to the groin. But theres not a lot... I had been suffering for some time with saddles that left me raw, bleeding and with saddle sores, no fun. My very first ride on this saddle, (a local TT) not a twinge of discomfort. It was the first time in forever that I got off the bike at the end of the day and wasn't the slightest bit sore or uncomfortable from the saddle.Previously I was using the Performance Women's Contour saddle and while it works great on my commuter bike (upright MTB) that I ride at low cadences when I get on the road bike or my track bike I would just suffer. The SLR is nice and firm so you don't bounce around at high cadences but has enough flex to it that you don't end up sore and bruised. I really can't sing enough praise of this saddle. It's kind of spendy but really worth every single penny even when you're on a budget. |
